Please pray for Jon.

My cousin Jon Thomann has been in the hospital the last week. He fell down a flight of concrete stairs and did some major damage to his head that required brain surgery. He has not fully become consious yet, but there are indications that he is becoming more active. This has been a trying time and has been hard on all of us.

Please pray for his recovery. If you would like to know more about his current situation, his girlfriend, parents and brother are keeping us all updated with this website/blog:

Waterfall type image

This isn't what I'd call a completed work of art in a pictoral sense, but it is complete compositionally. It's sort of a bit of an abstract image of a waterfall or something similar to a waterfall where you have a stream of colors flooding down the middle of a composition. This was more or less just a doodle. I like doing landscape paintings a lot, and somehow manage to get waterfalls in them on occassion. I mess with trying to figure out how best to depect that and still be painterly and sort of realistic but make the water sort of look alive as it's moving downwards... My past attempts at that have been somewhat successful when using pointilism type techniqes, but it's something that still needs a lot of conceptual work and work in getting control on how to get brushstroke placement and things all to work together cohesively... this little doodle was just a quick sketch in mspaint while on break at work, and I'll probably do more doodles like this or paintings in this arena in the near future since it's a complex visual puzzle to put together that is super simple yet can be very complex to deal with as you are trying to figure out how it all fits in together and works, and does what you want it to do for a viewer... all of that's probably not too apparent in this little sketch, but maybe a bit of it is?...

Scratcherboard Sky or Seascape

I kind of like painting a black or grey background in ms paint and then going in with grey or white streaks, airbrush, or pencil type tools to make a quick composition. Here's a few doodles using this technique...

Weird Little psychoclown, guy similar to the elder with crystal shard in dark crystal, or yodda type character

Just some doodles that started out as white airbrush in mspaint. It turned out looking like a Weird Little psychoclown, guy similar to the elder with crystal shard in dark crystal, or yodda type character to me... maybe you see something different?

Line Drawings...

This is just a progression of a doodled idea and I added a little more here and there... the little guy in the corner started to look like a detective, anime character of some sort with a handkerchief on his mouth, or something, and I sort of doodled in a bit of comic book elements... not a finished idea, but gives me a springboard of ideas to work from in the future...

Here's a little Landscape type Doodling with Color. Image was created very quickly in Microsoft Paint. Please remember - these are just quick little doodles, not real completed works of art...

Here's a few quick sketches where I airbrushed in some stuff on a black background. I really like this quick, almost scraper style of working in mspaint. I use mspaint for these because the computer I'm doing these doodles on only has that program installed as far as paint and photo programs go. Just stuff that I do during lunch breaks or other breaks during the day...

On this one, I like how one quick little airbrush stroke can create a sort of visual idea like you are in a cave looking up at an entrance and seeing the skylight above where the stars are or something. I really like this black/white style since the imagery can use both positive and negative white space... and if you don't see it as a cave or something, you can see it as something being depicted, like a bird or something...

The following is an expansion of the previous idea, but taking it to a full landscape sort of composition. Sillohettes can make for some very interesting images when doing this sort of stuff, especially if you start with either black or grey tones and work your way towards really dark or light as you build up marks on the image plane.

The following is just something stupid I did to the last pic... I don't really like it, but if I was to put in a character that was fully developed, I could possibly use this sort of placement, either having character facing the viewer or looking towards the horizon line. Not sure why I chose that gross color, but I did... it's just a doodle...

These images were created in Microsoft Paint on Breaks at work. They are simple little doodles that I create in my spare time.

Here's a couple of quick sketches... images are inspired by a fairy tale and are suppossed to be sort of dreamlike. I was just playing with composition more than anything here...

The following is a quick study of a character laying down. It's amazing what simple random dot patterns from an airbrush can do when mixed with strategically placed lines.

The following images are doodles of a composition that's sort of based on the pyrimidal "golden arc" idea. I've seen some really interesting conceptual works in sculpture and painting done with imagery similar to this. It's a fascinating topic to explore visually since there's so much compositional balance and harmony, and things are so widely opened for narrative interpretations, both physically and metaphysically...

Finally found a host for my images...

Up til now, I've had issues with a ton of different hosts... Now, the folks running Pirate Bay have created an image hosting site http://bayimg.com/ . I'm going to use that as a host site for my uploaded jpg files... most of which are just random doodles done in ms paint at work while on lunch breaks, or while sitting on hold on the phone with various companies for long periods of time... These are mostly, but not necessarily about 5x7 inches in size... so I can print them and frame them without having to make custom frames down the road, or can upload them to cafepress.com as greeting cards or for whatever if needed to do little projects here and there...

Hope ya like some of these... if not, that ok... everyone's a critic... LOL. Seriously though, most of these are just doodles. Think of them as nothing more than an artist's doodles in a sketchbook. The only difference is the sketchbook was a computer and the only image editing software available and on hand was ms paint... and of course, time was severely limited...

Links to Image Albums will be in the next several posts on this blog...
